The researches developed in this area include modeling of dynamic systems, design and implementation of control systems for linear and nonlinear systems. Applications in robotics and automation of industrial systems, among others, are developed. The main researches developed are related to the following themes:

Control of systems with uncertainties;
Investigation of stability and performance robustness of dynamic systems;
Fuzzy modeling and control;
Development and implementation of industrial controllers;
Detection, fault diagnosis and control of manipulator robots;
Integrated analysis and control systems for populations of parasite plants.

2.2 Power Electronics and Electric Machine Starting

This research area is multidisciplinary, involving knowledge of converters, circuits and control. The main research themes are concentrated in:

Control of induction motors: field acceleration methods (FAM);
Study of algorithms and strategies for parametric identification of three-phase induction motors;
Investigation of complex dynamic systems applied to modeling of induction motors;
Strategies for simulation of electric machines in Matlab/Simulink;
Implementation of three-phase inverters with vector pulse width modulation;
Implementation of AC servo-positioning devices with induction motors;
Micro-processed starting of static converters;
Starting and control of synchronous permanent magnet servo-motor with trapezoidal flux distribution (DC brushless servo-motors);
Modeling and simulation of induction motors through complex dynamic systems;
Power electronics applied to power quality;
Soft-start motor starting;
Starting of linear induction motors using electronic inverters;
Modeling, simulation and testing in conventional and written-pole technology induction motors.

2.3 Intelligent Automation of Processes and Systems

The research activities in this area comprise the development, implementation, analysis and evaluation of intelligent system architectures that can be used in processes and applications involved with industrial automation and with electrical power system. Within this context, the developed researches are categorized in the following themes:

Intelligent systems for industrial automation;
Development of intelligent architectures applied to power systems;
Intelligent identification and control of processes, manipulator robots and mobile robots;
Pattern recognition and system optimization;
Modeling and simulation of electrical machines and equipment;
Development of models of artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computing;
Naviagtion of AGV in dynamic and initially unknown environments.

2.4. Modeling of Biological Systems

Development and study of models of biological systems and determination of its characteristic parameters targeting their dynamic interpretation. Determination of the features of normal and dysfunctional systems with the objective of suggesting therapies

Modeling of the vocal apparatus;
Interaction of mechanical waves with biological tissue.
