Undergraduate

 

There are three ways of being admitted on a undergraduate course at Universidade de São Paulo as a regular student: The entrance test (“vestibular”), Transfer or The Program for Partner Undergraduate Students (PEC-G) (Latin America, Africa and Caribbean). You can also apply to courses offered by USP in the position of exchange students (“intercambistas”), to attend disciplines of your choice.

Electrical Engineering
Majoring in Electronics 
This course trains professionals to develop, design, construct, inspect, test, operate and maintain systems, equipment and electronic devices for medical, industrial and residential applications, among others. Graduates may go on to work at universities, research institutes, private and/or public companies, set up their own business, provide consultancy and work in administration.

Electrical Engineering
Majoring in Energy Systems and Automation
This course trains professionals to plan, design, protect, construct and administrate generation, transmission and distribution systems. Engineers can go on to work in utilities, power plants, engineering companies or work autonomously. Graduates should have expertise in Automation and Intelligent Systems concerning power quality and efficiency.

Production Engineering
This course trains professionals to design, implement, operate and improve production systems and services. Core training includes: quality, product design, production management and organization, logistics, information systems, economic management and manufacturing engineering.

Mechanical Engineering
This course trains professionals to be able to design and develop new products, plan and oversee the manufacturing of engines, turbines, pumps, cars, machine tools, steam generators, pressure vessels, compressors, thermal systems, industrial piping and control systems of machines and processes. They also work with product quality control and oversee machinery maintenance.

Computer Engineering
This course trains professionals to work in areas that use and develop personal and large-scale computers. It also prepares students to work with local, metropolitan and long-distance networks, communication between and by computers, computational vision, programming, management systems, landline and mobile telephone systems, robotics, voice, sound and image processing and integrated circuit design.

Civil Engineering
This course trains professionals to plan, design and construct buildings, bridges, dams, tunnels, foundations, slope stabilization, water supply, water resources, uses of hydroelectric power, water and sewage treatment, solid waste disposal and water pollution control, transport systems, ports, airports, waterways and roads.

Environmental Engineering
This course trains professionals to create, develop, manage and apply new technology to prevent and control environmental pollution, establishing environmental sustainability foundations. Professionals from this area can work both to prevent and minimize impacts that human activity can cause to the environment.

Materials and Manufacturing Engineering
This course trains engineers to gain integrated knowledge of the product manufacturing cycle from designing, selecting and developing materials to manufacturing process choices. These engineers will be able to develop or alter materials to meet the different restrictions and opportunities in design and manufacturing. Graduates will have multidisciplinary training and will be able to meet the different challenges of a globalized market committed to sustainable development.

          · The entrance test

 

Students from all over the world who are interested in applying to take undergraduate courses as well as to obtain a diploma or degree issued by USP, have to take part in the USP entrance test (called “vestibular”), which is organized by FUVEST – Fundação Universitária para o Vestibular.

All the exams are held in Portuguese, here in Brazil.

          · Transfer

 

Transfer from other higher education institutions (Brazilian or foreign) is only possible when unfilled places are available.

The admission process happens by pre-selection and specific examinations, both applied by FUVEST – Fundação Universitária para o Vestibular.

          · Program for Partner Undergraduate Students (PEC-G)

 

The Program for Partner Undergraduate Students (PEC-G, in the portuguese acronym) is a cooperation program between Brazil and countries in Africa, Latin America and Caribbean. The goal is offering to young students from these countries the opportunity to undertake their full undergraduate studies at brazilian universities.

To be eligible for the program, it is necessary to fulfill the following requirements:

Be a citizen of the developing countries with which Brazil maintains an Educational and Cultural Cooperation Agreement;
Possess a High School diploma or equivalent;
Be aged between 18 and 25 years old;
Have proficiency in Portuguese.
The pre-selection is carried out by the Brazilian Embassy in the candidate’s home country. The evaluation of the students is done based on their High School résumé or equivalent and on their conditions of financial means. For more information, access here.

 

Should a student be selected to take part in the program, he/she must check the Academic Calendar of USP and present the following documents at USP International Office (VRERI) two weeks before the beginning of the semester:

Covering letter;
Declaration of commitment;
Term of Financial Responsibility;
Transcript of School Records/ High School Diploma equivalent and Birth Certificate (all documents must be duly sealed and recognized by the Brazilian Embassy);
Medical certificate;
Passport with a Temporary Student Visa (Type IV);
Request for Consular Visa;
1 photography (3×4cm) for document.

          · Exchange Student

 

Students enrolled at foreign institutions can apply to courses offered by USP in the position of exchange students (“intercambistas”), to attend disciplines of the students’ choice, that have to be previously accepted by the chosen School.

 

The stay at USP can be for one or two academic periods (semesters). In exceptional circumstances and under a good standing during this first year, the student may be authorized to remain at USP for additional two semesters (maximum allowed time).

 

Entry documentation for exchange candidates:

 

1. Registration form
2. A recomendation letter written by the student home university;
3. A recomendation letter written by one of the students professor of its home University;
4. Study Plan; (access https://uspdigital.usp.br/jupiterweb/jupCursoLista?codcg=18&tipo=N, select the course and chose the disciplines);
5. Student’s Transciption of records translated into Portuguese and acknowledged by the student’s institution;
6. A copy of the passport data sheet, with the validity of the document;

Students develop research in the areas of processes and operation management (operational research, production networks and integrated logistics, change management improvement) and economics, organizations and knowledge management (corporate finance and economy, analysing labor organizations, knowledge management and information systems), as well as in advanced manufacturing processes (machining and sheet metal forming).

          · Program for Partner Graduate Students (PEC-PG)

 

The Program for Partner Graduate Students (PEC-PG, in the Portuguese acronym) is a cooperation program with countries from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Caribbean.

Foreign students interested in applying to a graduate program via PEC-PG must get in touch directly with the School where they wish to study. Applicants must send a transcript of their records (officially translated into Portuguese) along with a research project or study plan, and request an acceptance letter from the School’s Graduate Degree Program (Masters or PhD).

There are three modalities:

1. Additional Aid for Foreigners Professors and Researchers
The coming of a Foreign Professor for activities at USP’s Schools, envolving specifically undergraduate and graduate students (the support is given as daily rates for this activities period according to the values defined by the Reitoria). Rules and required documentation at the form Ação 1 – Auxílio Complementar Docentes e Pesquisadores Visitantes.

3. French Chairs Program in São Paulo
Directed by professors from french universities. The call notices are published at this website periodically:

Until November 9, applications will be received for the “Programa Cátedras Francesas do Estado de São Paulo”, sponsored by the Consulate General of France jointly with the universities of São Paulo State, included Universidade de São Paulo.

Applications are available for professors and researchers from all areas of knowledge from universities in France who are interested in pursuing academic activities at USP, for a period of 45 days up to 1 year.

Those who are selected will receive a monthly ammount paid by USP, and the Consulate General of France will finance the airfare costs.

 

College

The EESC-USP has 2500 undergraduate students and 1200 graduate. It offers 10 undergraduate programs, nine graduate programs and over 100 lines of research.

Campus

Besides the EESC, the Campus São Carlos of USP has four other colleges in the areas of architecture and urbanism, mathematics and computing, physics and chemistry.

City

São Carlos is known as the Capital of Technology. It is a medium-sized city with 220 thousand inhabitants and it is located in the center of São Paulo State (235 km from the capital city).
