EESC took part of a giant event
07/05/2010

On June 26, the EESC-USP AeroDesign Team went to Itu, and took part of the event of aeromodelism Giant Itu.

The event received RC helicopters and giant planes exhibitions, since scales of acrobatic aircrafts until vectored thrust jets. Brazilian celebrities of the environment were present, like Eduardo and Ana Paula Esteves (Diniz Esteves Enterprise), and the argentine pilot Quique Somenzine, owner of Horizon Hobbies, that designed and released the biplane The Beast and demonstrated the quality of the airplane in two (very aplauded) acrobatic flights.

The EESC-USP team realised that couldn't miss that! Thanks to the event's producer invitation, the team took to Itu its airplane EESC-USP Advanced, which had recently arrived from the american competition SAE AeroDesign East. Our pilot, Flademir Cesarin, was also present and performed two flights with the aircraft. A lot diferent from the other models, the airplane was called a wheelchair, because of the big pair of wheels of the main landing gear.

The team took the flights to collect several flight data, throught an accelerometer, a pitot tube and a GPS. One of the results was the mapping of the trajectory of the airplane, as shown in the image below:

Besides EESC-USP Advanced, another universitary project showed up: a scale of Mehari, acrobatic airplane designed in UFMG, also flew and called attention of the participants.

We thank the event's producer, Marcelo de Mello, to offer the team a great window for the exhibition of our work, and also our pilot Flademir Cesarin, since 2004 encouraging and flying these "wheelchairs".
